Competitive Rowing

There's nothing quite like the feeling of the power you get, as your crew drives across the finish line to win a medal!

Regattas in Western Australia usually commence in March and conclude in September with the Pennant State Championships.

Training for the competitive season begins in January with crews normally training three or four times a week. There are various classes of competition, from novices to advanced. There is also a Masters category. If you have some rowing experience, you can have a chat with the Club Captain and/or Coach so they can identify the best crew for you.

Highlights during the year include two weekends of competition in Bunbury - which involves sharing good times with your crew mates. There are also opportunities for crews to participate in interstate competitions such as the Australian Masters Championships or even the National championships.

Pennant regattas

Pennant Regattas are available to anyone to participate.
Crews are graded according to their rowing score.
Novices are entered into E grade and then automatically upgraded to D grade after two years.
There are no mixed or composite crews in Pennant Regattas.
Races are over 1000m with the exception of A & B grades which are 2000m and C grade which is 1500m.

In order to compete in the rowing regattas, individuals will need to:

Ensure the Club Captains are aware of your desire to compete; and
Order a Canning Bridge Rowing Club Zootie (compulsory competitive rowing uniform) from the Regatta Shop.
The calendar of regattas can be located on the RowingWA web-site.

Masters' regattas

A rower may compete at the masters level from the beginning of the year in which they attain the age of 27 years.
Composite (inter-club) and mixed crews are eligible for Masters.  All races are over 1000m.

Details regarding the dates of the Masters Rowing Regattas can be found on the Rowing WA website.

Both Masters competitors and Pennant competitors can compete in the Head Races (Long Distance Races).
